Re: Strange News

Maybe next time he could have had small stores change them bit by bit.
It is sad though when no one wants to accept it, it is cash after all. I guess in can be like pennies in a way.
Nobody wants to accept them even the vending machines!

Re: Strange News

lol that is such a cute story! It reminds me of quite afew years ago when I wanted to deposit money into my bank; the teller told me that I would need to have the loose change totalled up to their relevant money bag amounts or they wont take it! So if I had £x.35, I would need to lose the 35p or save up another £4.65 to make a bag worth of 5ps! Yeah, abit of a long story for not much... lol

Tourist jailed for iced tea 'smuggling'

A Filipino tourist was imprisoned for five days on charges of drug smuggling after carrying lemon-flavoured iced tea into Australia.

Maria Cecilia Silva, 29, has been cleared of wrongdoing after the mix-up over 800g of the Nestlé product in sealed packets she had previously purchased in a Philippines supermarket, AAP reports.

Silva's barrister Michael Penna-Rees said of his client: "She's traumatised, she's lost a lot of weight and she'll be seeing a doctor.

"She's a totally innocent young lady who has experienced five days in an horrendous situation having her liberty taken away and placed in cells with some serious offenders."

The incident occurred when a drug detection dog reacted to the iced tea containers and further testing of the packet gave a positive result for amphetamines. The prosecution later withdrew its charges.

At Melbourne Magistrates Court, magistrate Jack Vandersteen ordered the government's director of public prosecution to pay Silva AU$5,000 (£3,035) in court costs, while Silva may seek further compensation for her wrongful imprisonment.

Robbers 'called ahead to bank to get money to go'

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstop ... to-go.html

Bank robbers Albert Bailey and an unidentified sixteen-year-old accomplice were arrested by police in Fairfield, Connecticut as soon as they arrived at the bank that they planned to rob. Perhaps it was calling ahead and telling the bank employees to have the money waiting for them that undermined their cunning plan

Re: Strange News

All they needed to do was drink the darn ice tea mix to know that it is iced tea.
I didnt know that the ice tea back home has amphetamines, hmm maybe I should
drink loads when I visit again.

About the robber story, I totally agree with what cry said. I remember this robbery incident
somewhere in the states where this guy attempted to rob a bank and shoved a note to the teller
saying "this is a robbery gimme all your cash". He got the cash and fled but it didnt take the police that
long to track him down because he used his own payslip to write the note he gave the teller.
Its like robbing and leaving a calling card.

Chopra Blames Own Meditation for Baja Quake

The U.S. Geological Survey is blaming day-to-day seismological changes for Sunday's 7.2 earthquake along the U.S.-Mexico border. But Deepak Chopra, the famed alternative-medicine practitioner and transcendental meditation guru, is pretty sure he knows what really happened.

"Had a powerful meditation just now -- caused an earthquake in Southern California," Chopra wrote to his nearly 179,000 Twitter followers shortly after the quake.

And then, to clarify: "Was meditating on Shiva mantra & earth began to shake," he tweeted. "Sorry about that."
Chopra might want to apologize directly to those in California, who haven't suffered significant infrastructure damage but are still bracing for more temblors, and to those in Mexico, where two are dead, hundreds are injured and thousands are still without power.

Transcendental meditation (TM) was largely popularized by Chopra, who's been dubbed "McMeditation" for the multimillion-dollar profits he's earned off books, DVDs and his Chopra Center for Wellbeing in Carlsbad, Calif. -- where a six-day mind-body wellness program runs around $2,500.

According to Chopra, at the crux of the meditation practice is "the field of possibilities, creativity, correlation ... where intention actualizes its own fulfillment."

Let's hope he's wrong about that, or the guru might have some explaining to do about what exactly his meditation session Sunday was hoping to actualize.

An hour after Chopra's Twitter confession, he vowed to one Twitter user, @WhiteMoon7, "Won't do it again -- promise."

But even the guru himself must not know his own strength. Since the promise, dozens of aftershocks have rattled the U.S.-Mexico border.

All the while, Chopra's staying safely above the reach of the ongoing quakes. According to his Twitter feed, the guru boarded a plane from California to Denver earlier this morning.

Police seize four-foot penis

46-year-old Jason Hadlow's prized Indonesian penis carving was snatched by police after a member of the public complained about the £200 phallus, which was on display in his window.

He was told to pay an £80 fixed penalty notice, or face prosecution for causing 'harassment, alarm and distress' - and was told he can only have his penis back if he promises not to put it on display again.

Hadlow, who runs the Simply Dutch store in Leeming Bar, North Yorkshire, has now started a Facebook campaign for the return of the phallus, which he has naturally called the 'Free Willy' campaign.

And his experiences have not put him off the stone penis trade - he told the Northern Echo that he's ordered over a hundred more of the phalluses: 'I have got a container of them coming in four weeks, which contains a minimum of 150 of the willies.'
Local police said they were within their rights to seize the penis, insisting that Hadlow was 'committing an offence.'

'Lord Jesus Christ' Run Down In Crosswalk

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... t=1&f=1001

The victim might have forgiven the woman who ran him down in a Massachusetts crosswalk, but police haven't.

Police say a Pittsfield woman has been cited for running down a man named Lord Jesus Christ as he crossed a street in Northampton on Tuesday.
